Back at it again! ...now with Ink
A year later, I'm in a very different place, with the game and in life. So what's happened? (Obviously, the project didn't produce even a demo for the jam.)
Overall, I'm in a better headspace right now to be learning new things and getting writing done. Although I've drawn almost all of the rooms to make this a point-and-click game, I've come around to the idea that since I'm such a n00b, it's probably best if I look at the game first as something completely stripped-down: text-based, interactive fiction.
Although I've worked with Twine before, I was watching Get Lamp the other day and stumbled across Ink while doing further research. Turns out this was the pinhole I needed; the script is now past setting the scene and into making choices that effect the environment and outcome. Helpful resources, beyond what's available from inkle, include hoverboard talking through the basics and Capsule, which has a solid play-through and the full source code for comparison.
I don't know if I'll try for the Yuri Jam again this year, with or without this game. Looks like it's been pushed to October. But maybe it's best if I just keep plugging away, solitary. After all, it's yielding results...
